Helper springs hitting now that its lowered
I installed a new set of 5" lower rear springs the other night and noticed the helper leafs are hitting or pretty close to it by 1/4 in. Do they need to be removed? I am also looking at adding an additional 1 block to get to 6 inch drop. Will this help too?
Also while taking things apart I notice the right shock mounting hole was worn out and oval and should be replaced. If I add a shock relocator kit do I need to replace the origanal bracket or does the kit supply it? Thansk |

Re: Helper springs hitting now that its lowered
Lowering the truck, you are altering its intended design - of which helper springs were not created for.

Re: Helper springs hitting now that its lowered
Let's see if this helps. You can see the bottom shock mount is ovaled out and you can see the helper spring hitting.

Yes that's what looks like. So the question is one will a shock relocater kit replace the ovaled out shock mount nd do I just remove the helper springs and call. It good?

Re: Helper springs hitting now that its lowered
Yes, a shock relocator kit will include new lower brackets which will solve your problem. Also, yes the overloads will need to be removed to get proper suspension movement.
When you're installing the lower shock brackets, also remove those plates between the axle and rearend that the overloads hit against. You don't need them either. And, reach up above and remove the rubber bump stops on the frame. You can leave the bracket riveted to the frame but the rubber needs to go

Re: Helper springs hitting now that its lowered
remove the helper springs and all the mounts and hardware then resell them to pay for your shock mounts.
the p.o. of my truck went torch happy on mine and heated them then bent them up thereby ruining them instead of removing them
