aluminum radiator, ebay or entrophy?

looking to get an new radiator. mine seems to be shot the temp goes up pretty high in traffic and inside it looks to be corroded and the fluid is rust color.
so far i have come up with two choices my price range is around $300-500. both are 2 row with 1 inch tubes and both claim they can handle up to 700hp.

i like the ebay one because it has fans, but i don't know if those fans are any good and i would also have to spend money on a controller.

Before you start throwing parts at it, how does your truck currently deviate from stock?

- Do you have the correct factory fan shroud in place?
- Do you have the correct factory fan itself in place?
- If it's a clutch fan, is that operating correctly?
- Is the timing correct? If retarded, it will cause higher temps.

I'd get the current one flushed and pressure checked unless you think its wrecked. I've even done that one myself before but I seem to remember caustic soda down the sewer being frowned upon now (hey, it was the 80s, the Earth could take whatever we could dish out back then).

If you do indeed need a new rad, why not factory replacement? If they were made for towing a camper up a mountain pass with a 396 and the AC on, it should handle traffic. But again, ALL of the factory stuff would have to be there as it works together.

But, if you have your heart set on a shiny new unit, I've had great luck with a BeCool unit I put in my 502 Camaro. I can't remember the details, but it has two quality fans and a good shroud and the car idles at 180 in traffic, which is what I have for a thermostat. Might need a bigger alternator though, they're some beefy fans.

So, I've got it both ways on different cars: factory setups and aftermarket replacements. For an original motor, though, I'm a big fan of the original setup (as you can tell).

That's gotta be a lot of the problem right there. Get the original HD (AC) fan, which is either 7 or 8 blades. Here's a NOS 7-blade for under $40, and that's NOS.

You'd also need the clutch assembly, but they're a service item, it's only the fans that are hard to get.

Make sure once installed make sure the fan is about half-way deep into the entry of the shroud (half in, half out). Maybe 1/2" more in than out. There's a drawing the shop manual with the "right" number.

Especially in traffic, that's where you need this. If it cools on the highway, that sort of tells you that you have cooling capacity given sufficient airflow.

I would stay away from ebay radiators. I bought one a few years ago and it was a joke. Ended up sending it back. Bought a summit brand and it was night and day better.

Vacuum advance to full time manifold will help in traffic if your not already hooked up that way.

I have that particular EBay radiator for two years now. Excellent. Perfect replacement fit, has the correct transmission and heater hose hookups and I have had no troubles with it.

I have an ebay aluminum rad. 2 row I bought it without the fans. It cools my 250 really well in this 105 degree AZ heat. I drive in traffic 60% of my commute everyday and it doesnt peg above 190. I understand ebay items can be very hit and miss, but mine has been great. I do not have AC or extra accessories though.
