55-59 Headliners, need some pictures

I'd like to see what you guys have for headliners. Stock ones are cool but I'm also looking for ones that have been upholstered.

Re: 55-59 Headliners, need some pictures

One thing nice about headliners, they can be changed out any time. They're a little taxing to install, but later on if I should decide to do something better, I can, but probably just keep as is.. But there sure are some creative folks out there!!

Dubie, why not pick up another blanket to use for a headliner?

Bob it was done by glueing a hard foam to the roof the then sanding it around the edges to make it flow without any bumps.. once it was smooth he glued one piece head liner to the foam and tucked it under the rubber that holds the windows in to give it the finished look... in a nut shell that's how it's done.. if you need anymore info let me know and i'll do what i can to help you...

Re: 55-59 Headliners, need some pictures

This is a very big help to me. With the cab on the rotisserie, I was planning to fab a fiberglass headliner and upper back panel, then cover it, but this will be cleaner, easier and probably cheaper. To be sure I'm on the right track:

1) Is this "hard foam" "1/8-inch PVC foam board"?
2) Is the board formed with heat as one piece, or is it pieced together?

Thanks Again,

Bob before i lead you down the wrong path, let me talk to the guy who does the interiors for me and get it all right... I know he calls the foam a "closed cell" foam.. it looks black in color when he glues it on and uses 40 or 60 grit paper to sand it.. messy job i know that... the foam i think is easy to bend so no heat... and if you do get bumps or lumps you just sand it until it's smooth.. the head liner is one piece in trucks and the suburban he did he had to sew two pieces together because the suburban was too wide... i'll see if i can post a picture or two that might show it a little better...

Re: 55-59 Headliners, need some pictures

Bob here is the steps Shawn used to put the one piece headliner in the suburban... you may not have to do the same to the roof of the pickup truck.. but this should give you an idea how it's done... he screwed thin paneling to the middle part and used thin metal to form the sides and front.. covered that with the closed cell foam and sanded it in the corners and front and rear to get the shape he wanted.. then glued the headliner to it... you can see the seam down the middle where he sewed the two together so it would be one piece to the bottom of the windows... that way there were no seams along the sides... i wasn't there when he did it but he said him and his wife put it up... with yours upside down it should be easy....

Never mind, I found some door edge trim that will work.

Re: 55-59 Headliners, need some pictures

Parkwood, I missed the "Thank You" on this one. Great job with the pix, and with Shawn's install!! I'm not sure of the details yet but I'm going to try something like this. It'll show up in my build thread somewhere down the line.
