2 Bag or not 2 bag...That is the question...

Gentlemen,

Yes, it is me again asking more questions and breaking the cardinal rule of 'Pictures'. So... to placate the crowd here is a sneak peak of what will be leaving the colonies to return to the 'Mother Land'



Right! Now the peanut gallery is catered for on with the questions and a little bit of background...

I have had quite a few static drop cars, one in particular to the point of being virtually undrivable , but now, for the first time I am considering a bag set up.

The truck will be a daily driver (more on that once it actually arrives and work commences) but I want it to handle. Really well. Now, I could use a mail order kit from the likes or Airride but at $4600 I am sure that I could build my own set up for a lot less (I 'might' have raced cars at some point in the past....).

That got me thinking... What about a 'cost effective' bag set up with dropped spindles, front and rear roll bars, shock relocation and panhard rod...

So, we finally arrive at the question.

Can I ask for opinion from those that run a bag set up to let me know what it handles like?

I will be using the truck for track days and autocross events as well as a daily, as stated earlier, so if anyone else is doing something similar would love to hear.

I think for what you want to do a sprung truck would be better. I have one sprung and one on air and the air is a much softer ride. For it to handle like you want a much stiffer spring is going to be needed.

If setup properly you could shim the bags to allow for stiffer or softer spring rate at the same height. On mine I found that having each bag on it own line gave it great handling. best way to describe is on the freeway it rides like a caddy, and when you push it around the twisties it takes on a whole other persona, kinda like a corvette. I have no sway bars on my 66 lwb but if you rode in it you would think otherwise. only down side to air ride, is improper installation, leaks are you enemy. done right you will want all your rides on air.

I would want gauges to see where each corner is sitting and a gauge to monitor the system.

From what I can see the bags on these kits are not individually piped, seem to be a front and back hence the use of only 2 gauges.

As a novice with bags is this acceptable or do they need to be piped up separately?

Do you run bags on your truck and, if so, what are your opinions in terms of handling?

I don't see gauges in the kit you referred too, but if they are in there then they should be a dual needle gauge. One gauge for the front has a black needle and a red needle to indicate left or right. Same with the rear gauge. That is good as you want each corner plumbed separate so you do not get "cross contamination" of air when cornering.

Yes, I am bagged on one of the trucks with a similar system from Borris aka way2lo2 here on the forum. Cheaper price, but uses manual valves( nothing electronic to fail...simple) and a bagged system with sway bars handles GREAT!

No Limit has some great stuff. They are track tested and Smitty on here has done extremely well with an air set up. Both builds are on this board.

Those kits look fine but you can probably get a better deal using AVS. I just got a 4 link kit from Custom Connection for a great deal, I'm sure they can set you up for cheap too.

WOW! Thanks you, currently working my way through the threads.

I 'think' I am going springs over bags, the adaptability (Plus being old tech I feel more comfortable) is winning me over. Rob's insight has made me feel comfortable with my decision, well until I change my mind...
