9 inch conversion

I'm looking to put a 9 inch rearend under my 68 c10 can anyone tell me the best donor to find rearend to fit and how much work this will take to get it done. Thanks

Can't say about a 9 inch, but I did put a Chrysler 8-3/4 under mine. I believe it came out of a Dart, and the width was about 3 inches shorter than stock chevy. The only thing I had to do was locate it on the trailing arms and mark/tack weld the u shape perches that I cut off my old rear. Also had to go with a CPP ajustiable tracking bar because the stock one would not clear the "hump" on the back of this type rear. Also had to relocate the track bar mount on the frame end an inch or so to the rear of truck to make bar clear. I believe it had rivits from factory but easy to grind off and just drill new holes in frame with bolts. Of course all this was with bed off, so it wasnt bad that way. Overall I am very pleased. You may be able to find width specs online to see what kind of car you need to look for as far as a donor rear. Good luck.

late 70's t-birds and other big ford/merc cars had disc brake 9-inches with 5x5 pattern and just about the right width. just weld on new perches n track bar and youre set.

Agree...
If you use the ECE super track bar, you don't even have to weld on a track bar mount and ECE sells the perches.
That's what I did anyway.
The 73-79 Lincoln Continental & Mark III have 5 on 5 bolt pattern. The only issue is they are 65.25 inches wide wheel hub to wheel hub.
That's what I have in my truck, but its not together yet. So, I can't tell you if there is going to be any clearance issues.

I found a 3:50 traction lock 9" out of a 79 f-150 for $300 locally. It cost me $90 to have the housing narrowed and $150 to have both axles narrowed and bolt pattern changed. I lucked out and the center section was in great shape with new clutches. I have $90 in freshening up the center section. New axle housing mounts are available thru CPP. I'm having a new driveshaft made which will cost about $200. Adjustable aftermarket track bars are fairly cheap too.
