Hood strip fitment

Got a repop hood divider strip for my 1951 GMC. Never checked to make sure it fit properly like an ass. Then the truck and parts went to paint. Strip seems to be 1/4" too long!! Any tips or ideas getting it to fit without cutting? Thanks

Re: Hood strip fitment

If you are running the hood ornament you might shorten it behind the hood ornament.
You could cut it and slip a piece of flat stock in the ends of the cut to line them up and not have to deal with paint that way. That's if you can get away with taking the quarter inch out right there without causing problems. Other wise it is cut, weld and repaint.
