I have priced a 68 gearbox and pitman arm from napa and its about 260 I think it was and then I plan to use a junkyard pump off of a newer truck.

Re: power steering info

Yup should work fine. Get the correct waterpump pully, pump with brackets, lines and steering gear and line brackets if you see em.

Re: power steering info

I think the big thing to look for is if you have the dimple on the frame. I cant remember what years there was no dimple but I know there are a few guys on here that have added the dimple to the frame.

Re: power steering info

^8 was the first year to dimple the frame, but it can be done safely with a little heat and a little bigger hammer. Now the pump is and pulley thing is gonna be a little tricky because your 327 may not have holes for the acc in the heads. Also the pump from a later model will work but be aware that the boxes changed the type of flare nuts they took in the 78ish range but if you got box and pump off of the same truck you will be fine. It will work up to the 85 model year. 86 model year they[the General ] started to do some stuff with a V belt and a flat belt on the same truck so that is some thing to stay away from. You should have a short water pump on your truck. All of the 67-72's did have the short water pumps but the earlier ones didn't have holes in the heads like I mentioned before and that is the kind you need brackets for. There is a company in IN [I think] that makes all kinds of brackets and I was looking at them to get mine brackets to change my truck over to power steering with their stuff until I found what I needed one day while no longer looking. I also have the older style heads on a 327 motor with no acc holes although mine is in a 70 model it was the bus maintenance supervisor for our school dist. and he loved the 327's and when he was told they had stopped making them he ordered a truck load [ school dollars at work] and this was the last one he had the bus shop put it in "his" truck. [that belonged to the school but he drove to and from home] I bought this truck from the school by a sealed bid for $400 and some odd dollars and when I went to collect it they asked if I wanted to drive it home? Of course I said yes if it would drive, they said the motor only had about 2 to 3,000 miles on it. It helps to catch a break every now and then. Jim
