Cool new product - Transparent valve covers

Just read about a cool new product in Classic Trucks magazine. Classic Industries has transparent valve covers and thermostat housings. Kinda pricy though - $289.99 for the valve covers.

Re: Cool new product - Transparent valve covers

Apparently they have come up with a new material that doesn't crack or yellow.

They look cool in the photo, but what's it going to look like after the engine has run for a while?

It says that the oil will sheet off within 30 seconds of a full rev. So you can only see thru it at idle.

Who's going to hang off the back of the truck to watch the gears in the rear end while you are driving?

Re: Cool new product - Transparent valve covers

I had the different cover on my slammed dodge ram because when it was laid out the rear end stuck up into the bed. I also had a die in it that turned the oil orangeish color. It was cool but I got it for free from a sponsor. I would not have bought it otherwise.

Re: Cool new product - Transparent valve covers

Now on the rear diff I could see it for people like me getting to fat to get under a truck to check the fluid level. As for the v/c and the thermostat housing it is like the new trend for clear upper hoses I just don't get it. I guess I never was cool but then again if that is the standard I don't need to be. Jim

Re: Cool new product - Transparent valve covers

Maybe I could see it if you were very very bad at adjusting valves and wanted to look and see what rocker was about to jump off. But if you were smart enough to look and figure that out you could figure out how to adjust the valves maybe?

To verify that you indeed blew the gearset. Without having to drop the cover at the track.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
