Steering boxes

My power steering box on my truck has a striped shaft 73 model year I guess. So I tried to replace it with my other box off of a 79 4x4.

I found out the hose's ends are different, and I just can not swap it out.

If I just try new hose's will I find the mounting to the pump is different too?

If I need I new box I rather get one that has a bit more road feel to it such as having it rebuilt by Lee Manufacturing. Does anyone know the rough cost of a rebuild?

Also does anyone know of a re-builder closer to Chino hills?

Re: Steering boxes

It sounds like your ’79 steering gear is really a 1980. 1980 was the first year for metric fittings at the steering gear and pump. I always use Napa steering gears and have had great luck with them. I get them at jobber price which is around $140 after the core. Although, one person’s idea of “road feel” may differ from another. I mean, how much road feel can you really get with rolling on ’35 tires . I’ve been happy with the drivability of the Napa gears.
