1970 K-10 Power Steering Hose

Hey guys, I need some help. I'm replacing the power steering hoses on my truck. I've ordered 3 different hoses (high pressure) from the local parts house. All 3 hoses have had the same problem. One end has the correct size fitting and will screw into the pump or the steering box fine, the other end is bigger and won't screw into either one. I've exhausted all my options here in the middle of nowhere. Not that I had that many to begin with. Anyone else run into the same problem? I'm open for all suggestions. Thanks guys.

Re: 1970 K-10 Power Steering Hose

It sounds to me like your pump and gearbox are mismatched. Around mid 1976 GM changed from an inverted flair to a metric O-ring style fitting. It's possible that somebody sometime has changed your power steering pump or your gearbox to the later style. They may have had a special hose made up on yours. If this is the case you can match the fitting on the back of your power steering pump to match your gearbox by simply unscrewing the fitting and putting the one that matches your gearbox back in... Just be careful cause there is a spring behind that fitting that will want to fly out.

Re: 1970 K-10 Power Steering Hose

I looked at mine earlier today.

I'm guessing, the steering box was 1/2 pipe flare. The pump was 3/8 pipe but with a female fitting.

The hose I need has to have a male fitting on each end. I don't think there is a fitting that I can unscrew from the back of the pump. I'll double check though. Thanks

Re: 1970 K-10 Power Steering Hose

I had to use a 69 K-series hose when I put a 65 gmc pump and 69 gmc k box on my power steering conversion. My truck needed a male on box and a female on the pump. For those that needed male at the box there was a fitting included. The pump side only had a female. You may want to see what pump you have as to me that sounds like the mismatched part. Once you know the pump you can find the line probably on the shelf from another GM.

This is what my truck hose connection looks like. There is a gender changer fitting in the pump.

Any luck? Just an FYI you may want to order the hose from Advanceauto.com thats where I got my hose and it came with a gender changer adapter (i didn't need it because my older pump had the male on it already).

Here is a link to what I bought. I am sure you can find this locally or at another shop if you don't have any advance auto parts nearby. You can see that tiny adapter in the picture:
