Help SM 465 conversion

I am changing my K10 from a three on the tree to a four speed. Trying to bolt everything back together and the output shaft on the SM 465 and the input shaft on the T221 combine to be 1/4 too long. I think I have the right adaptor for the sm465 to T221. The trans mount location line up with my crossmember and the bolt pattern matches the T221. Does anybody have one they can measure to make sure. I rebuilt the SM465. Hate to rebuild the three speed and put it back in or change over to a 205. Thanks John

The hole in the bell housing is larger on a SM465 then the older ones. I'm not sure about the 3 speed. Check the diameter of the hole & the brg. retainer.

I don't know the 3-speed hole diameter, either. It could be the same as the SM420 4-speed. My guess is it is.

The SM420 Bell Housing has a 4-9/16'' Diameter opening, GM p/n: [GM11] 3815891.
SM465 is 5-1/8'' I.D. GM p/n: [GM5] 3925505.
A good machinist could open it up for you, but the OEM would be stronger.

Model Year 1968 was the only year for a production-installed SM465/T221. [Exceptions might be Canada and GMC into '69]. I do have one waiting a rebuild for a 292 L6/SM465/T221 '72 K/5 project, what dimension do you want measured?

Re: Help SM 465 conversion

Transmission is in, problem is the transfercase to adaptor. Transmission is supposed to from a 72. I can't see the output shaft length changing. Think I will check the input shaft on the transfercase tomorrow to see if it moved out. If not I will look for a three speed to put my tailshaft on and go back to the three on the tree.

Re: Help SM 465 conversion

Anybody know if the 10 spline output shaft changed length over the years. The SM465 was supposed to have been from a 72. Also I see people converting over to the 205 needing a custom rear driveshaft. Couldn't you use the associated parts from a 71-72 on a 67-69 lwd.
