Thumbs up Need help on where to start my build!

I have a 72 c10, my plan is to bag, ls swap, paint, etc. (Restore original look)
I'm a newbie and this will be my first project so I need a game plan on where or how to start.

I already have a complete 5.3 with a 4l60, but I Wana shave the firewall, bed rail pockets, gas tank, Blah blah.

People tell me to start from the ground and work my way up.

Someone please point out on where to begin my project

I'd start with body work first working back to front that way when you end up with the front you'll be half done & ready to shave the firewall & then install engine immediately after that. Depending on engine install you can move the trans around & move the driveshaft as well. It's ideal to have your drivetrain in it's final position before you airbag it so you know how to run everything cleanly and out of the way. This way you can still drive it around during body work. Drivetrain swap and bagging is time consuming just like body work and 90% of the time when it comes apart it doesn't go back together. At least with body work you can see progress and stay motivated. And you don't want to rush a drivetrain swap or bag job as there end up being a lot of hack jobs just because somebody couldn't wait to finish it properly. Body work is cheap and easy and gives time to acquire all the parts to bag it since you already have the drivetrain to swap and it's the dirtiest with all the dust. Easy to do body work then clean everything for install vs cleaning all the newly installed parts lol

Yea Ima install all the new parts near the end, but for now I'll probably remove the old 350,.shave firewall and throw sheet metal on the bed.

I'd say that Dubs10 has laid out a pretty well thought out plan of attack. That way you don't have to do anything twice and the truck is still mobile until you get to the firewall work and engine swap.

I would take the more traditional route and remove the cab and all sheet metal, do your suspension work, then drivetrain, then body work. I wouldn't want to do bodywork on a chassis that will eventually be modified.

Either way, you are on the right track of outlining a detailed plan of attack BEFORE you start.

Food for thought, if you start with the motor swap.. You will have a reliable driver that's not half in primer. Then you would already have your drivetrain mocked up and you can get prepared for the next step.
