So I registered here in '06, and it only took until today to get a Chevy...
But I finally have one!
It's a 1986 3/4 ton from CA. 454, of course. It seems to be all stock, except for headers/straight pipes/flowmasters, and most of the smog stuff on the engine seems to be gone. I've been eyeing the thing up literally since the day my neighbor brought it home. He's put some work into it and it now runs and drives really nice. It had a choke issue that I fixed when we got to his storage place to retrieve the third seat. Otherwise, runs great. Since it's from CA, so it's ridiculously nice, rust wise. A couple of odd small patches on the body, where seals let water in, but the floors, frame, body mounts, suspension parts, etc literally look brand new. Crazy stuff to a WI guy. Makes my Volvo 740 turbo look miniscule: It's got a few minor foibles. Sun damage to the interior, dead radio, and needs a headliner. On the flip side, new shocks, brakes, tires, working front AND rear AC, rebuilt carb, and all of the power windows work. I can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can start driving it on salt-free roads! |

Looks nice. Glad to hear you're putting it away for the rest of the winter. With the way this winter is going it will be May before the roads are clean (sigh).

No kidding.
I've really had enough of this winter. Plus I'll be able to see what this truck looks like without dirt all over it. |

I didn't realize how huge these are until I got my '84 in the driveway next to my Xterra. It's kinda crowded...Congrats on getting that one. I guess I'm impulsive. I only looked for one for three months.

Looks good! It's always nicer to start with one that hasn't been messed with yet.

Thanks guys
I don't plan on modding this one too much. Mostly just try to clean it up and keep it nice. |

HEY, 454 PEOPLE!
I took the air cleaner off to check and make sure my fixes to the choke actually fixed the issue, and when I pulled out the element, I found this: Another element! Is this supposed to be there, OEM? It seems to be glued in. I can't ever recall finding two air filters in an air cleaner housing before. |

I'm bringin' steelies baaaack! YEAH!
I had been looking around for some cool used wheels to get rid of those stupid 16.5s, but nothing really worthwhile was coming up locally. The tires on it were 15 years old and it was showing. Jittery, stiff over bumps, cracking on the sidewalls and tread, etc. So, I went cheap and quick. Black steel wheels from RockAuto. Conversion lug nuts and hub covers from ebay. And Kumho Road Venture AT's from the Tire Rack. It drives SO MUCH better with tires that aren't 15 years old. |

looking good. keep the updates coming. It's kind of cool to see these things as people add bits n bobs as they go on a budget. very different from a magazine where we see something being done all in one at seemingly zero worry of cost.

While we're on the subject of wheels, what are these aluminum things I yanked off of it? Are they factory?
