TV cable not long enough the reach carburetor

Need a little help here guys. I looked through the search field to try and find this but it doesn't seem to come up in there. I put a 700r4 in my 71 c10 with a 350 in it and a edelbrock carb and intake on it I have the adjustable tv bracket for it and have the geometry corrector bracket for it coming. I have been trying to get everything lined up to just hook the cable to the carb when it gets here but no matter how I adjust the tv bracket the cable never seems long enough to reach the carb even when I pull the cable out it still won't reach. What am I missing here is it the wrong cable or are one of the brackets wrong? Been losing my mind over this and have tried all I can think of to fix this issue. I'll try to upload some pics to show how everything looks under there. Thanks for all the help.

Re: TV cable not long enough the reach carburetor

I had to fab a short piece of metal and bolted it to carb where tv cable hooked up, then drilled it and mounted stud for cable so cable was long enough. I think it was about a half inch. If u have any problems understanding this give me a call 702-285-3912 and I can probably explain it better over the phone. Frank

looks to me like the bracket your throtle cable is hooked to is very far back . move it up and you should have no problem , you wont know until you fit the corrector to the carb first

X2. Looks like there is room to drill another hole further forward on the vertical part of your bracket to move the smaller 'L' shaped part of the bracket closer to the carb if you cannot move the entire assembly forward. Might gain you an inch or so if that is all you need.

Re: TV cable not long enough the reach carburetor

Theoretically the cable isn't too short if it's the same length as an original because the distance between the transmission and the intake manifold rarely ever changes (I'm doubting you have an exotic setup). The loss of length comes in 2 different places. First is your bracket, and second is your carb mounting point. Take a look at either an original setup, or a bowtie overdrives setup to see how far the bracket is in relation to the carb linkage. I'm on vacation so I can't snap a pic of mine.

Re: TV cable not long enough the reach carburetor

I just did mine and used a Holley bracket. It mounted to the rear carb mounting stud, much further forward than yours, and it worked out fine. I have a Quick-Fuel carb, basically the same as a Holley. I do believe the geometry correcting bracket will move the mounting point back about 1/2 in.

Re: TV cable not long enough the reach carburetor

Unless they used a cable short enough only to reach the V6 or something, I don't know. My 200-4R is out of a Buick V6 Turbo and it reaches the Q-jet on the big block.

I do know you probably shouldn't have it coming in at an angle, as that changes the rate of change.

Also, when the cable linkage connection point on the carb is at it's lowest point (half throttle, I guess) it should be level with the cable; ie: the cable should at that point be level to the ground.

You all are right about the bracket being to far back I bought a different one that bolt to the carb and now it reaches. Idk way that bracket didn't work tho when they say it was made for a 700. Thanks for the help tho here's a pic of the new bracket if it'll load up it's not the best it was late last night didn't take time to get a good one.

Me too, which bracket did you get? I have the same problem, bracket sits way too far back for the end on the TV cable to reach.
