79 to 86 engine swap?

I have a 79 GMC with a good 400 small block. The GMC is loaded but the body is trash. There is a 86 short bed 4x4 in town with a bad motor and lots of stuff missing like the AC parts. Questions are: can I use the 79 AC parts on the 86? Does the 86 have computer? I can't remember what year started computer controls in pickups. Any help would be great.

as far the ac parts am not sure if all of them will swap but most of them will.

The 86 will probaly have a computer in it but it was for the carb. Which that 79 motor will work just don't use a computer controlled carb they sucked. You don't have to hook the computer up at all. So you 400 will work fine in the 86.

They didnt start puting in the computers till 87 i believe you will more than likely have to use the airconditioner parts for the 86 which should be no problem to run them down!but other than that everything else should work

i have a 76 and an 86. You can put the motor in there easy enough, and even the transmission. You may have to change wiring harnesses or stuff like that but ya cando the swap. I dont have airconditioning but my thoughts is that on a non air conditioning truck you wo uld have to swap over the heater boxes. you may have to do alot of swapping parts to get this to work, but im sure you can do it somehow. i would PM CaptKaos as hes the guru who came through for me with tons of great info
