55.5 VIN location (in cab)

Hi

I have been searching, but am either getting conflicting info, or I'm not bright enough to decipher the info I'm getting (probably the latter).
I'd like to know where the VIN plate should be located in the door jamb of a 55 2nd series.
Is it either of the pictures here?

Re: 55.5 VIN location (in cab)

Turquoise truck is location for 55.5-57 other is 58-59. Vin is also stamped on the top drivers side frame rail just in front of the steering box and top drivers side frame under the step. First is easy to see if it hasn't been ground off or filled. The one under the cab can be a challenge but usually you can get an impression using chalk and a mirror or paper and pencil rub. It was the "secret" one used to find stolen trucks that had the other defaced and removed. The one on the jamb is help on with special rivets so you can tell if its been removed or changed.

Orrie - thank you very much! 55.5 is riveted on, not tack welded?

My 57 was welded on and so was the one on the 56 big window I replaced it with.

On my 55 2nd series the vin plate is spot welded on the door pillar.

Re: 55.5 VIN location (in cab)

I looked in the FAM and it clearly states "spotweld 2 places" so I stand corrected for 55-57. I do not have the 58-59 supplement so cannot check that. I looked at mine and it is spot welded too, I was sure it had the funny rivets. May have been confusing it with the 64 chevelle vin...
