402 Big Block Rear Main Seal

Tell me the best brand of rear main seal to buy and what you would seal it with. I am going to do this in the truck. I am losing almost a quart of oil every one thousand miles. The rebuild on the motor is really strong and it starts and runs great. I just need to get the rear main seal oil leak fixed. Please mention any tricks or the important things I need to do. This is a stock block in a 1/2 ton truck, bored .040 over, crank was just reground for the first time.

First you need to confirm where the oil leak is coming from. Could be your pan, a valve cover, oil pressure fitting or back of the intake. Last on the list would be your rear main.
One drop of oil every 100 feet uses a quart in a thousand miles.

The transmission is out, the flywheel is off and it is the rear main seal.

Well then just go shopping at your local gm dealer or parts store.
Install per normal procedure. Instructions should be in the seal box. Lip forward, a little oil on the lip, offset the joints with a light smear of form a gasket and you're good.
Fel-pro is what I've used.

Make sure the lips face the inside of the engine...
