Should this slide right in?
Pulled it from a 1980 Chevy 3/4 ton (couldn't have been a 1ton could it?) Owner is getting me the vin# today. Sway bar is the size of my wrist
Mine is a 1970c 2500 with power drum. Do I realistically need to pull my motor to do this ? The truck we pulled it from had the motor and the front clip removed. |

Re: Should this slide right in?
id say yes im pretty sure the motor mounts are attached to that cross member. unless you can support the engine and chassis separately.

Re: Should this slide right in?
chain up the motor/tranny with a hoist and just a jack to drop the cross member down and the new one back up. Wont have a terrible amount of room with the hoist there, but it can be done. If you have a engine sling available, even easier.

Re: Should this slide right in?
Ha, I didn't know the later 3/4 tons still used the screw in control arm bushings. Since this is the case what's the advantage of swapping out the whole cross member? Why not just swap the control arms and spindles, brakes etc onto your cross member.

Did this a year ago without pulling the motor.
