Foglights in Front Bumper

I currently have a pretty mangled up bumper.. thinking about replicating what I've seen on some of the 67-72 bumpers....

Anyone done it before?

It's possible but it'd be hard to get that curve frenched with the light fixtures. What size lights you planning on doing if you get a new 60-66 bumper or in general?

There's a certain place(s) that sells fog lights that mount on top of the bumper. My bumper has two small holes on top for mounting fog lights..and I'm thinking of putting a set on it. Mebbie...we see. lol

I think with the hard frenched curve I'll make my own SST 'recessed cups' to "level it out" on each side.

I'm tempted to try it with a 'nice looking chrome bumper' thats seen a few pushes, pulls, bumps and bruises on it before.

I've never seen it done, but I considered doing it to mine a long time ago. I was going to mount the lamps on the bottom flange of the bumper, and cut out the bumper for them to fit in. I was going to make a "visor" to cover the area above the lights so the entire head didn't stick out. After I went with the Buick grille bar though, I gave up on having fog lights at all as they conflicted with the symmetry of the front end.

Funny you mentioned it lsx because I've totally been thinking about how to do the same thing.

It's not hard to do, we've done several in different types of bumpers. Most importantly is to get the bumper sitting just like it is on the truck. Most of the aftermarket chrome bumpers have a tendency to "kick up" where they wrap around the fenders when bolted on. In my opinion, this looks horrible, so we always straighten them. With that in mind, we level the bumper on the sides, mark the location of the holes and drill a 3 1/2 " hole. What we feel is an attractive light are the 3". Then we use 3 1/2" exhaust tubing to make the tunnel, tack weld in from the back side, setting the depth so that the lens is slightly inside the bumper face for protection, then cut off the excess in the front and grind to match the contour of the bumper. The mounting tab will need to be fabricated to match your lights. We generally try to find some that have side or rear mounting lugs. You'll need to make sure you allow for adjustment of the lights, too, and ease of bulb replacement.

I'll try to dig up some pics of the last one we did, but hope this helps.

Both.

I'll eventually be doing HID 7" in front on relays/ballasts along with foglights.

There are much better options than HID's in H4 housings... plus that's illegal.

I just put Cibie H4's with a relay harness and 80/100 watt clear Hella bulbs in my daily driver and they're way brighter and have 1000 times better beam pattern than drop-in HID's. Plus you lose the low/high beam function with drop-in HID's.













If you want HID's you need projector housings.

I just put Cibie H4's with a relay harness and 80/100 watt clear Hella bulbs in my daily driver and they're way brighter and have 1000 times better beam pattern than drop-in HID's. Plus you lose the low/high beam function with drop-in HID's.

H4 poly housing with graphed BMW HID projector will be legal

Yup... I know I'll need projector housings... (I always laugh when I see people put HID bulbs in newer OEM halogen housings that just take 3/4 of the HID bright light and throw it up into the on-coming traffic or to the stars.

I made my own projectors for my old F150 using an ebay LED angel eye housing and then salvaged BMW HID projector units... turned out awesome. I'd probably try the same thing.... el cheapo poly 7" housings... put them in the oven and cook them apart like I did with ford OEM housings... and then rebuild with a BMW or mercedes salvaged projector housings and graph them back together.





Yes I know... either brights or only 4 forward facing lights are legal.... was for 'off road use only' that I lit it up like a runway.
