Looking at a new project, need info

I have found a '68 GMC short fleet 2 wheel drive that is in great original condition, it has the v6 and a four speed. Are these engines any good and is it a rare truck? Was just looking for a fleet side bed and this truck showed up. Price seems fair so I may take on another project. Just curious if the v6 is a desirable engine or a boat anchor.

Not a rare truck just a great one. I always have liked the 67-68 GMC look as it has that classic look but still is more aggressive in appearance than the Chevys.

The v6 will not win any speed races but will pull all day long and is different when you pop the hood. Almost everyone has a v8 in these and the inline and v6s really catch my attention and make me stop at a show.

Cool factor of 8..makes up for the loss of two cylinders as long as you are not in a hurry

Those engines are torque monsters and almost indestructible.

As far as going fast, they may not have an edge in acceleration, but if you want to haul anything, they'll keep up.

Desirable engine? Oh, yeah.
