upper a arm

I have a dumb question on the upper a arms on a 1972 chevy 1/2 ton truck are they held on by bolts or studs? I cannot get up in there far enough to see. I have gone through all of my sockets and have found nothing that fits. any help would be awesome.

They fit on studs that are attached to the crossmember. Let me see if I can find a picture for you...

The studs stick through the a arm and have nuts and shims on them for alignment purposes.







The studs go through the 2 holes on the upper shaft.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Thanks for the awesome picture. I thought they were studs but could not see them. They just spin when I try to take them loose. Can I replace them with bolts when I take them out?

I dont know why not but you will want to tack weld them in place otherwise they will be tough or impossible to tighten. The guys at the alignment shop would hate you lol.
They are a knurled end just like a stud for your wheels.
They will need to be grade 8. I cant remember if I replaced mine or not when I had them out I think they are kindof a "specialty" fastener a little hard to find the correct ones. If they are spinning then your hole has enlarged so unless you weld some on your hole chances are the new ones will also spin.

Yes and no. You need really strong bolts (at least Grade 8, and I'd try to find an ARP or better bolt. It holds your wheel on.)

Also be cautious about welding the bolt. David is right above that if you don't tack them they might be hard to tighten, but the head of welding might wreck the hardness of the bolt. Maybe a tack will be ok, I don't know. And don't breathe the fumes from a cad plated bold being welded.

I would agree on this also. I don't know if I would weld them are not. Just tack them in so they want spin would be enough. I would try finding the correct kind of stud and looking really close to the frame and seeing if you can weld the frame up enough to hold the studs. This maybe a better opition.
