This is a nice one. It is un restored but the mileage has been set to zero.

All gears are in excellent condition and operation is very smooth. Very nice face and needles also.

Comes as you see it. $200.00 shipped to you door insured.

I can build a cluster to sell with this also.

First, I'll take it gets it. Negotiations on this thread only. No PM's except for mailing and payment information please.

Thank you for looking,
Tom

Re: Speed Warning speedometer head F/S

Hey Tom,

What is the "speed warning" actually used for?

Hi Steve,

When the speed warning is hooked up in the cluster correctly, it will alert the driver that they have reached a predetermined speed. The white needle is operated by turning a knob n the cluster bezel that turns a cable that turns a set of gears behind the speedometer face that move the white needle.

Once the speed has been reached, the normal orange needle grounds against the white needle and activates a buzzer mounted under the dash to alert the driver they have reached there speed.

I hope I explained it OK but in a nutshell it is an alert to the driver that they have reached the speed they set it at.

Take care,
Tom

You explained it perfectly, thanks, I've always wondered about that. Is this a rare option? It looks great BTW..

Thank you Steve, They are not very common and hard to find in good working condition. It takes a few parts to make them work as they should. I am not sure about how rare they really are.

Thank you for the comments,
Take care,
Tom

PT,

I will need to check my inventory. I am out of town currently. I need to check on one for too much stuff as he is also inquiring.

I am also working on the idea of reproducing the brass pins and making my own speed warning tins. They are certainly the hardest part of the puzzle to get in good original condition.

I will get back with you if I have any spares.

Take care,
Tom

Re: Speed Warning speedometer head F/S

The whole brass pin can be eliminated by cutting a hole and using a round rubber grommet then just run the S/W wire through the hole. The simple reason for the pin is to keep the whole system non conductive so it will work correctly. The only reason that most want the tin with the pin is it is the way GM designed it but I personally think it was overkill. I have built more than 50 of these clusters and you could come up with a pin that had threads on the inside part of the tin then the problem would be solved. The only thing about remanufacturing a part like that is once the big boys like Counterparts or someone like that knew that there was a market for this part and they mass produced them then they would blow you out of the water on the price. The Impala's and Camaro's used the same pin. I have robbed several pins out of 66,67,68 and 69 Impala clusters.

Yes Paul I do agree for the purpose, the GM design was way overkill. For the purist, that is OK. For many others, a simple way, like you say to get the wire though the tin with out grounding will work just fine.

It would be very easy to make a pin that would work as the original and be able to keep the factory connectors on both ends.

Something else on my list

Take care,
Tom

I apologize. I should have mentioned that this speed warning speedometer head has been sold.

Along with it, you would need the rear tin that has the grounding lug for the wiring, and the hole for the control cable, the control cable with the knob.

I will be getting a speed warning cluster built for sale in the near future. To just buy the pieces to make your own are going to be around $300.00. You may find a used non tach speed warning cluster for sale for about the same price.
