Engine mount headaches
Hey everyone newbie here I just got finished installing the 73-87 engine stands in my 71 lwb. My problem is that now my trans is hitting cab floor. Also just replaced all the cab and core support bushings. Truck was originally equipped with 350 and a th350 I'm swapping in a fresh 327 and fresh th350. Just wanted the more modern clamshell mount now I'm debating going back to the original mounts any suggestions greatly appreciated sorry no sig yet

Re: Engine mount headaches
Welcome to the board.
I am unfamiliar with the 73-87 engine stands so unfortunately I don't know if those change the resting height of the engine or not. There are a bunch of guys on here that will know though so hopefully one of them stops by. |

Re: Engine mount headaches
They can be made to work but they do make the engine sit higher. A lot of guys use them for big block swaps but they do sit make the engine sit much higher than stock. There is nothing wrong with the original mounts, and everything will work right, including fan clearance on your shroud etc. Do you still have the original trans crossmember?

Re: Engine mount headaches
Yeah Im trying to use the original crossmember. There will have to be new holes drilled in frame in order to use that crossmember.
Also wondering if anyone has used the tubular engine stands? That's my next option. Again thanks for any suggestions

Re: Engine mount headaches
Which tubular engine stands, the ones from CPP?
If so CPP has a new sheet metal version that is better because it's lower profile and allows more room for exhaust manifolds and headers. Go to Ebay and check them out, here is a link.
