Automatic steering column problem
Today I cut the column on my steering shaft in preparation for the Captainfab power steering conversion.
Then I picked up the steering column and realized I could not shift it. I disassembled the column and I cannot get the bottom selector to move. An advice would be appreciated. |

Re: Automatic steering column problem
I'm sorry, someone else may understand your issue, but I'm not quite sure how cutting your steering shaft would change anything in regards to your auto shifter.

Re: Automatic steering column problem
Yea, I just don't know.
I plan on installing an original 3-speed auto column this winter. We'll see if I have a similar issue. Post here if you figure it out.

Re: Automatic steering column problem
Update:
Turns out the collar with the bolt holes that retains the spring was rusted in place. I got it freed up by spraying Liquid Wrench in the bolt holes, and then standing the shaft on end was able to push on the collar to compress the spring. I am now able to push the collar down and move the shift lever freely back and forth as it should. John |
