Anyone seen these before?

These are on a 1970 c/20 truck never seen anything like them before. They look like some kind of torque strap. The one on the passenger side was bolted to the a/c bracket that I removed. Factory installed?

Dealer installed tiedowns for when the motor mounts break. I have seen them quite a few times and have a few NOS sets also.

They were a fix for stuck throttles on trucks until 1971, when they switched to throttle cables.

they are a good idea, you would be surprised how much a engine can jump up if you beak the driverside mount. I had the driverside mount mount on a tunnel rammed big block break while I was getting on it. the engine cam up and over a good 5". luckily the hood was originally cut out for a mr gasket street scoop and I just had two small air cleaners on it at the time or I would have needed a new hood

while being quite young still at the time, I do remember such things and the dealers could not keep these things early it seems. So being that most farmers are part engineer and if you hand them duct tape and zip ties that feeling will double. But back then in that day it was mechanics wire and in this case a couple of bolts and a short amount of chain to limit the torquing over the engines. Little did everyone know we were just a short redesign away from solving the motor mount crisis. Jim

Yup, early motor mounts broke quite easily as the torque and HP increased through the 60s & early 70s. The quick fix, these straps and were used on most GM cars that had came in for broken motor mounts. The mount was replaced and then these straps were installed. Lots of bolts and chains for the DIYer. GM fixed the issue with a redesigned motor mount that had a couple of interlocking tangs that limited the distance the mount could separate and prevented the rubber from tearing.

I found a nos set on e-bay for $22.00 in the box a few months back They make a few different models and have one specific to our trucks

These were installed as part of a safety recall campaign sometime in the early 70s to restrain the engine and prevent solid throttle rods from sticking in the open position.

Man I wish I had at least one of those installed on an old Pontiac about 30 years ago! As others have described, the drivers side motor mount broke and the motor torqued over. Sucked the accelerator right out from under my foot; just floored that 389 on a neighborhood street. I shut off the key the first time. Second time I just rode it out. Pretty exciting but I fixed the motor mount anyway...

My 2+2 lost them somewhere and sure enough, when the mount broke the engine lifts, the throttle rod doesn't, and bye bye! So we poverty kids just used bolts and chain.

But it'd be nice to have a clean new set, I wonder if they're still around for big blocks?

Brain teaser: did they really need one on the passenger side? Does the engine torque the other way when you're backing up, or since that force is reversed in the transmission, does the engine still torque up the driver's side?

I would say if you're downshifting to slow down then the engine would torque over the other way so the passenger side tie-down would be useful.

my 70 has them. I have also wondered if these were factory or dealer installed.

those things were a recall, i put so many of them on i got sick of em!! lol,
gm got mad at us once cause we had too many of them and i told em some of these car and trucks were crashed and totaled and in the junk yard!! they didnt care so we went to the junk yard and installed alot of them. those with no motors were fun! hehehe

Here are a few pics of the NOS kit I found on Ebay for $22.00 if you find one buy it can't get more correct than having one installed on your stock ride ? I just looked at ebay $60-100.00 today !
