OT 61-64 F*** steering shaft/gear

Friend of mine has a 62 F*** F150 that the steering is out on. I haven't seen it but he says the shaft of the steering column goes right into the gear box and has a gear on the end of it. I'm guessing a worm gear. Any how that gear is messed up and he needs a new shaft. He can find someone to rebuild the old one but cost is like $350 to $400 Any body got one or a link to a F*** board like this one?
