My first new old chevy
Hello guys so I just bought my first old new truck. This is my baby and I have a ton of plans for her. I also have a lot to ask cause I never had something like this to work on before. I am in the navy and have been stationed in Norfolk va. I bought the truck from a guy a little bit north of here she is clean no rust underneath. He did most of the work to the truck Like
Original engine was a 283, new motor dropped in at 72545. New motor came out of a 74 camaro. Motor- 350 2 bolt main. Bored .30 over, mains and rod bearings standard. 4 dish flat top pistons Heads- Are a 462 cast 58cc chambered double hump 1958-About 1962 corvettes, (furie heads) with screw in studs, posi loc rocker arms nuts with high performance valve steam seals. Cam- Comp cam 272 Intake- Edlebrock performer Carb- Edlebrock 650 1st gen- AEI distributor, after market with vacuum ADV Rear end- 1974 chevelle, has new seals and fresh lube spark plugs- are ap 85's (auto lite) or equvilant plug wires- 8mm Tranny- Is siginaw 35pd manual Ignition modual- BWD CBE4P This is some of he work he did on this truck and I plan on doing much more. Now I am trying to change the front drum breaks to disc and power breaks all the way around. The guy I bought it from had a set of 74 chevelle spindles that he had bored to fit the original ball joints and tie rod ends. I am trying to make this work so I can keep the spindles, and rims that are already on the back. Some of the guys at napa have been helping me out but I would like some help from the pro's (you guys). The guys at napa have been hooking me up with 69 el camino rotors and calipers because they said that is what will work with the spindles that I have been given. I also really don't know what kind and where I should pull the break booster and master cylinder off of. Or should I just order one? Also if there is a need for a bracket to mount to the fire wall. Also what about a proportioning valve? Thanks guys for helping me out with this I really appreciate this. |

Re: My first new old chevy
Faq's section will answer all your brake question and the forum search engine is great, especially if you narrow it down to the 67-72 site

Re: My first new old chevy
Welcome to the forum, you have a nice looking truck there to start with. This may not be in your budget, but CPP makes a complete kit that allows bolting passenger car rotors on to the stock truck spindles. Perhaps you can buy bits and pieces that may produce an easier installation:
