Question Parking Brake Romoval? Help

Hey guys,

I'm not sure how many of our trucks have this, but mine has a parking brake pedal that sticks out from under the dash at the bottom right by the drivers side door. And, coming out of a hole in the dash above it near where the steering column is in the dash, is a handle that is the release for this parking brake and it says "Brake Release".

The brake line is protected by the stiff steel casing that protects most brake lines. This casing runs out of the cab and is attached to the chassis on the drivers side.

My question is how does one disassemble this setup so that the cab can be removed from the chassis.

This is the last step for me before removing the cab so that I can begin sandblasting, so your guys knowledge and help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nathan

Re: Parking Brake Romoval? Help

I removed mine to replace the parking brake warning switch, and it is a PITA.
As I recall, there are two (or maybe 3) bolts holding the pedal assembly to the firewall. Unscrew the bolts from the firewall side and the pedal assembly drops down, then you can disconnect the cable and wiring harness from the inside of the cab and remove the assembly. You will have to wiggle the pedal assembly free from the firewall because it is a tight fit in the holes. There are studs attached to the pedal assembly which protrude through the firewall. Removal is easier than reinstall.

I think my Haynes manual has instructions. Maybe someone can post a page from a service manual.

Thanks. I'll try that!

Hey guys still can't seem to see how to disconnect the line connected to the assembly in the cab. Please help! One of the last things I have to do before the cab comes off.

Re: Parking Brake Romoval? Help

I have seen two methods where they fastened the cable housing to the parking brake assembly.
One is a clip that has two loop shaped ears that stick out, and it snaps into a groove at the end of the cable housing.
The other is the cable has three fingers that stick out, and as the cable is pushed into the hole it goes into, the fingers spread out and prevent the cable housing from backing out.
