292 Flywheel / Crankshaft Q ?
O.K. ;
My 1966 292's bock is dead so I bought a *much* newer blue painted 292 and put it up on my engine stand yesterday , removing the flywheel revealed it to have much larger flywheel to crank bolts that does my older 292 . Can I still get a new flex plate to attach my TH305 tranny to this beast ? . Will I have to swap the cranks ? . Etc. THANX in advance for any and all replies .

Re: 292 Flywheel / Crankshaft Q ?
They have used different bolts over the years, the difference should only be the size of the head. each should work.

Ummm..you may want to double check that. I think the thread sizes were different too. I think older 292s had half-inch bolts and then they went smaller.

Re: 292 Flywheel / Crankshaft Q ?
The later engine has larger thread bolts ~ I tried fitting them to the 1966 crank, no go .
Hence my concern , I want to figure this out before I go overhauling the engine !

About 68 up had 1/2 in bolts. The earlier ones had 7/16. You can get a flex plate for a 292 but it is easy to drill the holes out to 1/2 in. & get the 292 flexplate bolts. Be sure the flex plate holes line up to the torque converter bolt holes.

Re: 292 Flywheel / Crankshaft Q ?
I just went through this not to long ago. I could not find a 153 tooth, drilled for 1/2" bolts with holes enough for 3 dowel pins that would bolt to my TC in my 200r4. I had to drill one out, which was no big deal, but I had to add those 2 extra dowel pin holes, and that required a calibrated turn table on the old milling machine at our shop. It was easy with that.

THANK YOU for all the replies ! .
I expect more as folks think upon this . A year or two ago I found a C/30 with factory loaded 292 , 700R4 automatic , AC , the works , I commented to my brother it was a hard item to find and he said ' better grab it now ' ~ oops .
