Finished my 2wd conversion!! We'll kinda
we'll here's the end result fellas! I got her mostly buttoned up just need the steering linkage and power steering box. I started out with a gutted '69 4x4 that was left for dead. The real reason I took on this project for two reasons; 1) was for the rear axle, see the axle in my '71 cst gave out while taking the kids out for a ride. And 2) was what the heck am I going gonna do with a perfectly good and somewhat scarce '69 blazer? Duh?? Convert it 2wd form! I've always wanted one but my money tree is somewhat drying up and dying, so buying a real was out of the question. Plus I had most of the parts in my stash to do the job. So here it is boys and girls! My very own humble homemade/home built 2wd blazer. She's still got a long ways to go but it's a least start

Lol! I'd be on the same boat if I went out and got another one! But thanks for offering I'm building this one up for my two boys. Plans are to put buddy buckets in the front and the stock bench in the rear. 350/350 combo and hopefully repaint it in Hawaiian blue with the white top.

Re: Finished my 2wd conversion!! We'll kinda
My 72 looks exactly like your before picture right now with the nose in the sky. I did the 5 lug axle conversion and a flip kit in the back already and next up I need to do the front end - I have the entire front end off a donor truck to use - I cut off the frame a few inches back from the control arms.
Did you follow someone's specific directions or just kind of wing it? I've seen lots of vague descriptions of the job, but many accounts seem to differ. Were there any factory holes to utilize for alignment and initial bolt-up, or did you have to measure and drill everything? Any tips/tricks for someone about to do the same? |

Re: Finished my 2wd conversion!! We'll kinda
Thewraith, your right about info being vague I too couldn't find a clear way of doing the front. I did do a lot measuring and re-read any posts related to 2wd conversions here on the board and I also happened to have two spare frames to use as guides problem they weren't near me so I had to travel and take plenty of pictures on my iPad, however I did find two holes in the frame that allowed me to bolt the engine crossmember/cradle in and from there I just built up the courage to start drilling into the frame. I'll dig up the picture of the holes that I'm talking about.

Absolutely I agree. Mines pretty square all the way around I took plenty before and after measurements and the wheels look pretty centered in the wheel wells.

Re: Finished my 2wd conversion!! We'll kinda
Thewraith, here's a pic showing the one hole that lines up except in the pic I have a bolt going through it, it's where the engine cradle and the frame rails meet. There's one on each side, I used those as a guide and started drilling the rest from there, hopefully this makes sense I realize the picture may not be the best. If you need better pics let me know and I'll retake some more.
