Just Got a 61 Panel
I just picked up a 61 Panel from a good buddy who is getting married. Its got a 327/700r4, and freshly rebuilt brakes.
Its going to need a gas tank, and I can't seem to find one for the 60-62 panels. 63 and up are everywhere, but apparently the frame rails are different. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Here are a couple pics of the panel: Front clip needs to be put back on. I have it all though... |

Nice Panel Blown240; this ad has parts listed. Not familiar with him.

Re: Just Got a 61 Panel
Thanks music man. I forgot about that guy. I actually bought some parts off of him for my 66 suburban I had years ago.

Re: Just Got a 61 Panel
Well the guy in Chula Vista never got back to me. I realized that his add is over a month old. I guess Ill have to find a tank from something else.

Re: Just Got a 61 Panel
I used a 22 gallon poly tank in my 62 it has the X frame and is larger in rear. Poly tank came out of a 92 Caprice wagon. Grab the mounting straps if you go this route. Got some photo's in my album's page.

Re: Just Got a 61 Panel
GMC Pauls says their Blazer kit will fit (adapt) 60-62 - this is the solution I am looking at.

Re: Just Got a 61 Panel
A Blazer tank is what I used in my 63.

Re: Just Got a 61 Panel
I guess this thread will become my build thread.
I got the truck home tonight. It was the first time I was able to really check it out and I got a lot better deal than I thought! Turns out I am the 4th owner, and it only has 70,000 original miles!!!!!! I really wish it still had the original engine and trans, but I can't complain about the 327 with a 700r4! It sat in the desert for most of its life, so its pretty rust free. It doesn't charge, so I need to check the wiring and probably put an alternator in it. And it only has headers right now, no exhaust, so thats one of my first priorities. also the idle is really high, and it shifts really late. But it runs, drives, turns, and stops. And the gas gauge always reads full! A tank gas and sender are also on the list... Here are the pics: |

Re: Just Got a 61 Panel
What do you guys think of this tank? I need to double check the measurements, but it should work...

Re: Just Got a 61 Panel
Thanks!
I took the truck out for the first real drive yesterday. It has a strange knocking, or tapping sound coming from the front wheel. Sounds like maybe something stuck to the drum, or maybe a bad wheel bearing. Also, the 700r4 isn't set up right. It shifts real late under part throttle. I only got on it once, and it won't downshift. Im going to have to look into that ASAP, so I don't burn the trans up. But for sitting in the desert forever, its doing real good! |
