Hanging front clip without cab
I'd like to hang the front clip on the truck to check some clearances between the hood and engine & hood and core support. I've attached the core support the frame and the fenders to the core support.
Can anyone provide a height measurement for the rear of the fenders (or inner fenders) relative to a point on the frame? I'm thinking inner fenders relative to the cab support would be easiest ("rear of inner fenders 1" above top of cab support" for example). Thanks! |

Re: Hanging front clip without cab
I really don't see how this will work for you.
The correct way to set the gaps is to fit the doors to the cab and then work your way forward. The fender to cab mounts will determine the door to fender gaps, cowel to cab gaps, cowel to fender gaps, cowel to hood gaps, hood to fender gaps, on and on... Without the cab you're just spinning your wheels.

X2^^^^^
I just did my fender/cab/door alignment and had to shim the front of my cab up about 3/16 for everything to come out right, yeah, so don't waste your time until your cab is on the frame.

Re: Hanging front clip without cab
Sorry, I didn't explain it well. I'm not looking to set gaps, drill final alignment holes, or do a final install; I'm looking to see if the engine cover clears the hood. You mentioned shimming the cab 3/16", that means 1/8" at the engine cover. If I don't have 1/8" clearance on the hood, I have bigger issues than some cab shimming.
I'm not looking for someone to grab a micrometer, just to give me a +/- 1/2" measurement. |
