torquing a pinion nut

I'll bet many of you knew I wouldn't get to first base with that nut - lol. I moved the truck forward and backward with emergency brake on and in gear; I even had a large pipe wrench (poorly set up) to hold the flange; got no where. I forgot the po loved super glue and jb weld (I'll spare the details). So, I'm sure there was a good supply of red locktite on that nut.
Perhaps one of you guys could have done it from under the truck - but I could not. And I didn't want to pull a groin trying.
I did get lube in a couple of u-joint end caps; but didn't disassemble to get the other two. I wasn't sure of myself as I haven't done ujts before. I did clear the zerk but couldn't get any grease through it with my trusty ole grease gun.
I'm reassembled and back to square one. I did grab drive shaft to check for movement and I got a little rotation slop (bout 1/4 inch) and some clunky sound. I checked it out while it was still in gear, and with brake on, so I'm sure I didn't do that right either. Oh, and I didn't get any up and down movement. That's all I know today folks. I'm feel a little bad that you all spent so much time on this thread. A hearty thanks!

since you had 2 of the u-joint caps off and it seems that it has NOT been greased in ages were there any little marks/grooves in the u-joint (pin)? is your drive shaft 2 piece? can you get any pics of the shaft (the complete rear section) in one pic

Nothing stood out. The needles remained in caps. There was dark liquid like grease. I didnt do much other than slightly wipe out and put in some Lucas red sticky.
last time I drove the truck, it had a pretty wicked pop in the rear as I turned the corner. At 1 time I thought the popping was leaf spring or spring u bolts, or maybe shock or something like that. It's in old post of mine. Never solved although I did tighten the u bolts yesterday. I beginning to think rear axle problems. And pinon seal still leaks.
Ring and pinion shop said 550 to change pinion bearings and reseal. Of course thats just the starting point. Im bummed right now front suspension needs work. Looks old and doesnt hold grease. Looking at 800. If it needs more than tie rod ends, ball joints, and alignment.

Popping around corners sounds like you might have a limited-slip rear.

It definately was the loudest pop to date. And it seems to be a left cornering phenomenon. Hope I'm not in for a big cost.
I think it's worth mentioning that the vibration between 15 and 35 mpg started a couple weeks afer buying.
if it's an imbalanced drive shaft as some have suggested, why did it not vibrate when I first got it? Do they suddenly become imbalanced? The po monkeed around. Prob messed things up.
