Had a '73 C10 with manual front disk brakes, and I liked that setup better than the power disks on my '69 Nova.

Reason being that because of the foot pressure required to actuate the manual disk brakes, you can really control them right to the point of lockup without going too far and skidding.

Kind of a pre-anti-lock brake system to my mind.

Yep you got a great deal on that truck IMHO, heck it would likely cost more than that just to replace the factory issue heavy duty drum brakes in my '69 C10 with aftermarket disk brake parts.

...oh, and I think the '67-'72 stepsides are much more rare around here than the fleetside beds, so that just adds to the cool factor as far as I'm concerned.

I paid more than that for a bare swb frame, so I think you did great.

What do you guys think I should do with the engine. It has the in line 250 in it now. Pretty noisy lol. I was thinking of rebuilding it but for the same money I could put a 350,383,or a 454 in it. I'm a newbie on the engines. But they are selling cheap on Craigslist.

I think you should get the 350CI 260HP crate engine from Jeg's for about 1950.00$, it comes with intake, gaskets, HEI and balancer, valve covers, oil pan, timing cover/timing tabs. You can use the flywheel that is on the 250 and maybe even the engine mounts. You can get the rest of the stuff (pulleys, brackets, etc) from a U pull it. The crate engine is completely brand new, and comes with a real enforceable warranty.

Regardless where you get the engine, you will spend more than you think installing it. Carb, radiator/heater hoses, belts, maybe a radiator, exhaust manifolds or headers, and exhaust pipes/mufflers, water pump, brackets, fan, etc.

IF I wanted a used engine, I'd go the the U Pull It and take my pick maybe even swap around a few parts. If you decide to go that route let me know and I'll give you some recommendations what to look for.

As others stated, it runs, has disc brakes, ain't perfect, but what does $700.00 buy these days??? unfotunatley, not much, you did good!!!
My 1970 1/2 ton has factory discs, or at least they look factory... I was wondering when the other guys were saying they weren't available...
