Bearings for rear end drums...$75 a piece!!!????

Need some help finding a good source for inner and outer bearing for my C20.. Being quoted $72.33 a piece for the outer bearing/race and $69.14 a piece for the inner bearing/race!! ...or is this reasonable?

$285 for bearings seems REALLY high?? I just did the front end for a fraction of that!! When i factor in the grease seals and diff cover gasket, new brake shoes..im $330 into this job.

Are there other options here (rear end swap?)

Outer bearing part # on the old bearing: B11630
Inner bearing part # on the old bearing: D11786

'72 C20, 3/4 ton with 3 link suspension.

Pulled everything apart because the outer bearing on the drivers side ate itself and stranded me in the middle of the road when the drive shaft partially walked out of the diff...(see my previous post)

help appreciated...

Do you have an Eaton rear end? If so... they are expensive.

If you have a Dana or a 12 bolt... that is way over priced.

That would be an Eaton HO rear end. Parts are pretty darn expensive or plain hard to come by.

You could gain something from a swap to something like a more modern 14 bolt.

Re: Bearings for rear end drums...$75 a piece!!!????

In May 2014 I finally got around to installing new Timken rear bearings on my 69 C20. I have the Eaton H052 rear end. I bought all the bearings in February of 2012 so the prices shown below are out of date. Shipping is included.

I shopped around once I knew all the part numbers but they are not cheap for sure. Also, I was in no hurry to buy everything because I knew I would not be getting around to actually doing the work for some time.

There are other suppliers that sell bearings for this rear (NAPA for one), but I wanted to stick with Timken because they have a good reputation.

http://www.showmetheparts.com/timken/#

Timken 382 (rear inner race, 2 ea) $ 13.98 (eBay)
Timken 2081 (rear wheel seal, 2 ea) 10.43 (eBay)

Timken 362 (rear outer race, 2 ea) 38.76 (kscdirect.com)
Timken 388A (rear inner cone, 2 ea) 40.64 (kscdirect.com)
Timken 368S (rear outer cone, 2 ea) 73.18 (kscdirect.com)

Total $ 176.99

You might also try "Bearings Inc.". They are an industrial bearing supplier and can usually match any bearing up to about 3 ft. Most of their branches have excellent customer support also.

Re: Bearings for rear end drums...$75 a piece!!!????

Thanks to everyone for the help.. this HO rear-end is proving to be hard to get parts for all around.. but.. getting closer to putting her back together.
Finally got the correct brake shoes, one side done, second cleaned and ready to re-assemble.
Next, install all the new bearings..last bearing will be in the 7th.. so ill be on hold this week for that.

Does anyone know what the ring is call that has the tabs on it you fold down when you put the retaining nut on ? (kinda loops like a throwing star)...both of mine need to be replaced and having a hard time finding them??

Re: Bearings for rear end drums...$75 a piece!!!????

The only thing better about a 14 bolt than a HO52 is they are easier to get parts and gears for. Otherwise everything else about them is just a cost reduction on GM's part. That said the 14 bolt is a very good axle, but the H052 is even better. Its a dump truck rear end that's lighter than a 14 bolt, better ground clearance, removable 3rd member, fully supported pinion, and most have load bolt. You can run disc brake kits meant for the 14 bolt since the end flanges have the same mounting pattern.

I rebuilt mine with quality bearings for regular bearing prices. I can't remember if it was oreillys or rock auto but I have the receipt somewhere. Just make sure your not paying for barrel bearings. The tapered roller are great and cheap.
