Re: 58 hood latch question

That is one of the other parts that isn't repoped is the 58 spear.
Nice job on the 58.
Does any one know when they would've started selling the next years model ? Did they start selling 59's in 58? like they do now?

In the 50's and into the 60's the model year started in September. I remember as a kid the dealers would cover all the windows and take delivery of the new cars at night. When they took down the paper and opened the doors we would all ride out bikes down to ogle the new models, I started at the Chevy dealer so I could see the newest Corvette first. There is a possibility that if yours is a late 58 model with say H-xx-8 date codes on the original parts (if any remain) that they may have just ran out of old parts and put on the newer fenders and trim knowing most farmers would not care. More likely is it got damaged in the front and someone swapped out the fenders, or may even just liked the 59 trim better.

Ford broke tradition in 64 to introduce the 64 1/2 Mustang before the new Chevelles, GTO's and Gran Sports came out.

Re: 58 hood latch question

unfortunately the whitewalls were a must for him. The 59 fender badges were accompanied by a 59 hood emblem. I was able to talk him into the 58 hood emblem because in my opinion its way cleaner looking. he was back and forth on the fender spears but decided to keep the ones he had. Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm hoping to have it finished up in the next week or so. Only big thing I'm waiting on is the new vent window assemblies.
