Re: for those running 327's 305's 350's

Too long to be the short one; those are less than 6" from the block to the flange where the fan bolts on. If you notice, your measurements also seem to line up with the long waterpump engine in the second picture.

Everything looks like a later long waterpump engine to me; I'd also guess it's probably a 350 and not a 327.

Lay a ruler across the front of the pulley and measure from that line to the block.

BTW, WTF is up with that left/drivers side engine mount perch? Looks like it was broken and scabbed back up with a welder or something.

Bottom alternator mount bolt is wrong and missing the spacer to go to the head. Looks like the wrong power steering pump pulley also. It is a long pump. Easy way to tell is to see if there is a gap from pump to timing cover. Most of all the brackets look to be late 70's stuff and the power steering pump is much earlier with the nut on the end.

the alternator is just bolted in loose not tightened down since I just removed it to weld it back together for now but I wasn't happy with it and started to remove it again but just left it there in disgust and there are no holes in the head to mount it to. Probably why the bracket broke with the vibration from it not being attached to the head. Most work done under the hood was all there when I bought the truck and as my plans are to do an LS swap next year I felt no reason to correct all the mistakes previous owner made under the hood.

But, I do want to drive it the way it is for a while before I spend another $5-10k on phase 2 being motor trans rear end disc brakes 6 lug to 5 lug conversion new wheels and AC

I am thinking I need a new accessory set across the front of my motor with all new water pump pulleys brackets and belts. I am guessing that will hold me over for another year or 2 until I am ready to swap the entire drivetrain out.

Re: for those running 327's 305's 350's

going by submarine's photo and allowing for parallax viewing yours it looks like you have a long pump. I also believe the short pump fits right up against the timing cover while the long pump has a half inch or so gap.

EDIT: sorry for the redundancy, while I was typing the page must have added several replies
EDIT #2: even dumber than that, I was only looking at page 1

Re: for those running 327's 305's 350's

the long pump has the mount for the power steering pump--short does not. a short pump is almost touching the timing cover were a long pump you can see between them.

Re: for those running 327's 305's 350's

You have a long water pump on your engine, no question about it. All you need is a alternator bracket assembly for a '73-'87 car or truck. There are 2 different uper brackets. One of them, the top ear reaches the passenger side bolt on the thermostat housing. The other bolts to a boss on the intake manifold, which is what you currently have. Also depending on which water pump you have, you may or may not need a spacer between the boss on the pump and the lower bolt ear on the bracket.

Re: for those running 327's 305's 350's

I have the same set up on my 327 but mine is for sure short water pump. I'm going to change to the long water pump. Any ideas on what power steering bracket that is? My heads don't have the mounting holes either!

Re: for those running 327's 305's 350's

with some more grinding on the brackets I had welded I was able to put it all back and tighten it up without any rubbing. Let it run for a while and we seem to be ok for now…

I do not bought the truck with it already there, I just replaced the pump hoses and went to the quick ratio box from Brothers.
