73-87 bed differances?
I'm going to go pick up a used bed tomorrow my truck is a 1980 and I think this bed is newer it's currently being used as a farm trailer so it's just the bed mounted on a trailer frame. I believe the trailer bed is a mid to late 80s though will it bolt right up? There both long beds but mines 3/4 ton don't know what the other one was. Thanks for the help in advance

Re: 73-87 bed differances?
79-87 beds have the square gas door. Trucks with a single gas tank have the door on the driver side. 73-78 had round gas caps and single tank trucks have the cap on passenger side. I'm not sure, but I think there was some differences in the 73-78 gas caps.

the 73-78 beds did not have gas doors only gas caps they bolt on exactly alike tho and if you put on the wrong year bed you may have to move a gas tank and get the proper filler neck

Re: 73-87 bed differances?
Thanks guys hopefully it's a bolt on a ready type deal I know both beds have square gas doors but I can't remember if it has dual doors or not like mine. I'm kind of holding it doesn't so I can get rid of the passenger side tank that the previous owner told me leaks. I never tried it tho.

The bump in the floor for the gas filler is different on gas door and gas cap beds too

Re: 73-87 bed differances?
The 79-83 beds have the metal brackets for mounting the filler neck. The 84 up have a plastic mounting shroud for the filler neck. Also the newer beds have different tail light wiring than your 80.

On the single tank trucks I think 1981 they switched to the drivers side.

The 81 ups had tail gates with a lip on the bottom not rounded like the
80 back, also the hinge points are different and script on the tail gate changed. |
