couple of newbe questions

I have a 69 c10 ramp truck. It is currently sporting a 327 and 4 speed manual trans with 1 ton 8 lug running gear. I am wanting to swap in a 454, but am curious if I can still keep my 4 speed granny gear tranny. I don't know what kind or which model it is, I just know the gear ratios are really close, and it is really wound out at 60mph...I need to keep a manual trans. because of towing cars, etc. any help would be greatly appreciated.

oh yeah, oil pump failed today, and I locked it down, so a swap will commence shortly...

Welcome to the site loads of great info on here for you you can use your trans no problem at all may need a different bell housing not sure. Also your gonna need some different motor "stands" or "perches" as they are different from small and big block. The winding out as you say of the motor is still gonna be in play as it is in the rear gearing of the truck and the trans isnt gonna help you there.Good luck start reading use the search and have some fun. Bellhousing should be fine but the motor mount stands are different for the big block. I am sure someone has some laying around for ya!
I am doing the same on my 67 C50 327 but on C50's the motor mounts are in the front of the block like 55-57 chevy cars.

ok, thanks guys. This sounds encouraging. I'll look into the motor mounts. Also, another thing I was considering was going either to a tbi setup, or doing a multi-port setup and going efi. The tbi's require a computer to control the injectors, right? I've done some searching, but have yielded only some vague results, or large build threads that are 20+ pages long...thanks again for the help guys! I have some decisions to make...
