Re: 65 Stepside Frame off Resto
Finally found a day to work on the truck. Life has gotten way too busy and there just is not any truck time.
We were able to get the front end reassembled again. This time I used the new inner fender from Top Banana and it worked out. There were still the stamping lines and ripples that had to be fixed on the inner fender but it fit so I'm a happy guy! We set the hood on just to see how it looks. The hood will need a lot of straightening and filling but at least it is solid. Ignore the dark spots on the front fender. I had to play with the new powder I bought to use as a guide coat. All of the lines seem to work out pretty well. Will have to do some filling on the driver's side grill support to get a good line with the fender but outside of that, it's good.

Re: 65 Stepside Frame off Resto
If you have a solid hood, that will really save a lot of time. I sold my original 65 hood today, but only because I found another hood that's even better - a GMC hood! Hooray! I'm glad the Top Banana parts worked out for you.

Re: 65 Stepside Frame off Resto
Bomp - Thanks for checking in. Life took a left turn last fall but in a good way. Long story somewhat short, my wife retired this past December and decided last summer we were too young to be retired (not my thought at all). She saw a business that teaches math to kids and got interested in it. We ended up buying two franchises for this business called Mathnasium. They way the have developed a system for teaching kids math that is pretty cool.
So, in October I still had some time to work on the truck but that changed around mid November. I have been getting leases in place, getting both sites built out, doing permits, going to training, etc. Looks like I will be busy into the summer. There is a good side for the truck on all of this. Even though I am having to basically take 9 months off from the truck, I have gotten my wife to agree to a larger budget for finishing the truck. She also had been saying I would have to sell the truck to fund the next project which I have also successfully negotiated her off that point. Bottom line is I won't be rolling down the road this summer but will be next summer with more goodies on the truck. Believe me, I can't wait to get back to the wrenches!

Re: 65 Stepside Frame off Resto
I'm happy for you. That's all good news. Glad nothing is wrong. I had also been wondering what was up. I even thought maybe you felt pity on me and wanted me to catch up to you on my build. Who knows? Maybe you'll get more done this summer than you planned. Meanwhile, we will keep watching.

Re: 65 Stepside Frame off Resto
Thanks for keeping us posted.
Glad your wifey thinks the both of you are toooooo young to be retired. Heck, Im in my mid 40's and try an act like a young 20 something most times. Keep on teachin' that math stuff. We need smart people in our future, you never know, they might use some of that math to calculate out some tricked out frame/suspension stuff in a truck build some day. In the mean time flingin' a photo or two up once in awhile wouldn't hurt to feed us out here in truck building land. |

Goodies are fun! Since we have started getting to work on setting up the businesses I have been amazed at how many people say "I suck at math". We do need better results relating to math eduction.

Re: 65 Stepside Frame off Resto
just read through your thread and i gotta say... man, you are so close on the truck. all the prep work you did looks very well done...
i get that part about lots of distractions getting in the way of truck progress but its well preserved in your garage and its time will come. with your roots in arkansas, we should meet up one of these days. and buddy, that '62 camper you just got, is killer. |

It would be fun to meet up some time. I used to drive through you neck of the woods once a year to head down to Mena to visit with my grandparents. It is a beautiful part of the state. Thanks for the comments on the 62. Funny how you can go look at something and in 10 minutes go "I gotta buy this". I can't wait to have it road ready and get to drive it. Maybe I should get there and drive to your place.

Re: 65 Stepside Frame off Resto
Jeff,
I am not even close to catching up to you with my recent "life gets in the way" distractions, but I am back working on my cab again. Learning to weld is sort of fun. I hate all the preparation work and the grinding can be difficult too. Get those math centers up and running and then get back at your truck. Meanwhile, glad to hear you're doing OK. Jay

i know, i impulse on trucks that i won't ever be able to build. if they have a few options or some straight sheet metal i also get the 'gotta buy this' syndrome. maybe you can time the trip to arkansas for your camper with the cruise-in at our place in october. we have it on the 3rd saturday and its a pretty good time. anyway, check your calendar. love to have ya. love to see that '62. and by the way... your heirloom '57 hardtop is dropdead... |
