1971 Suburban lift kit help
I have a 1971 Suburban 2wd, I want to do a 3" lift. I don't know a lot about lift kits so I'm looking for suggestions. The plan is to lift it so I can fit some 33" tires on it. Thanks

Re: 1971 Suburban lift kit help
Lift a 2wd? Difficult, particularly the front IFS.
Others running dubs and such have been able to massage or trim inner fender skirts and fender lips to make room for larger diameter tires than stock. If you are planning on painting the burb anyway, sheet metal massage is worth investigating. I've assumed you're not converting to 4x4.

Re: 1971 Suburban lift kit help
No not converting to 4x4 I wanted to lift it to put on better off road tires and give me a little better ground clearance when on camping trips. Was thinking for using 3" spring spacers but I don't know how that would affect ride

Re: 1971 Suburban lift kit help
you can do a 3" body lift. Otherwise you will need to ask a local offroad shop. Custom lift spindles ran me $1200 for my old 2wd ram 2500 diesel the blocks for the rear leafs. Spindles will keep stock ride comfort.
Hope this helps. Chris

Re: 1971 Suburban lift kit help
If you do a lot of converting, there are some later model 2X front lifts. There are no longer any 2X front lift packages for 67-72 2X trucks, or I would already have one. There are ways to mount the upper ball joint under the UCL instead of on top. With the needed spacer (probably custom built) you could get some lift. Big block springs will help a little. But bigger springs on gets you so far. Maintaining proper geometry and safety is paramount as well as difficult. Careful thought is necessary here.
However, 33" tire will fit under at factory height (no sagging). There may be some rub on the street, off road, there would be more rubbing. I would start there and modify as needed.

Re: 1971 Suburban lift kit help
thanks im going to get some 33's and see how they ride. I found 3'' spring spacers for front and rear so I might just use those if I need to..

Re: 1971 Suburban lift kit help
Supposedly, there is a way to run '88-'98 GM truck spindle lifts by changing to a 3/4-ton lower a-arm & tie rod....

Re: 1971 Suburban lift kit help
I had a 3"spring lift...went back to stock after tearing the upper ball joint out of the control arm and destroying idler arms in under 5000 miles. Stick with a big block or HD spring any taller you have no droop left and the ride is terrible never mind the bump steer. best tire would be a 265 75 .
Your burb will still be fun and safe to drive.
