Leaf Springs. Stock vs Lowered Ride Question
Looking to update the suspension on Henry. New leaf springs and mounting shackles, etc.
Looking at stock springs, as well as lowered springs from Eaton. Obviously ride quality is subjective. Can anybody compare ride quality for stock vs lower springs? |

Re: Leaf Springs. Stock vs Lowered Ride Question
Someone on this board told me that a truck with stock springs and a drop axle kit will ride better than a truck that's been lowered with the springs. I want to say it was Newfisher, but I don't remember for sure(getting old).
Sid told me the same thing when I talked to him about the drop kit I'm doing for my customer's '54. My wife's Panel is stock and rides well enough that I'll be dropping it with the axle kit when the time finally comes(read: if I live that long). WOW, that was quick!

Re: Leaf Springs. Stock vs Lowered Ride Question
I've got a 3" dropped axle on my 58 and a set of 4" lowered leafs on the rear. It rides good. Find a set of adjustable GAS CHARGED shocks. It will ride good, but remember it is a truck so it will still ride like a truck.

Re: Leaf Springs. Stock vs Lowered Ride Question
Did you have to notch rear frame to make the four inch drop springs, looks good. Also, i've wrestled with the same dropped front axle or lowering springs.
Seems to me that the axle would sit very close to the road using that dropped axle but the lowering springs put the body closer to the road instead of axle and if your truck is like mine your going to want to replace old springs anyway so why not just use the dropped springs? Just my reasoning, i'm sure some of these other guys know more about it than me. Good Luck |
