Re: Hood hinges

Salvage yard. Cheap. Then take to a plater for phosphate coating (Parkerizing) will look and function smoothy as new provided you picked a good set. Can have other items phosphate coated at same time like door strikers, hood latches, pulleys, bolts.

The right one is still available through GM. I got one 2 weeks ago for $61 out the door with a shop discount.

Re: Hood hinges

I wouldn't necessarily go cheap as that they may be the cheap chinese reproduction knock-off parts that I wouldn't trust on my truck. If at all possible, pony up the few extra bucks and get something that you know will last you. I went cheap on my heater controls and my headlight relay conversion on my '68, and I've been regretting those ever since.

I went cheap on stamped steel engine covers (valve covers, timing cover, oil pan) on another project and I could never get them to seal right. Do yourself (and your truck) a favor, don't go cheap. I understand that money can be tight, but just don't rush out and buy the first part that you can afford. Save up a little more for the better quality parts. Cut out the morning coffee or the pepsi every day until you have the money for the better parts.

Just my two-cents worth.
