Ok, I have a dumb (rookie) question about dash bezels

Is there any major mods or problems I would have from running a 69-72 dash bezel (wiper switch on one side and headlight switch on the other) on my 67? Is there enough wiring behind the guage cluster to move either my headlight switch or wiper switch to the other side of the bezel? I don't mind having headlights and wipers on the same side with choke on the other side but with all these custom billet dash bezels and inserts, I think the 67-68 crowd is forced to do without or alter to the 69-72 style. Any suggestions???

Rob

BUXMAN, thanks for the heads-up on the longer wires and thanks for the kind words on my 67. Do they ever stop costing money? I didn't think so.......

Javy, your billet bezel is why I ask about running the 69-72 style on my 67. Unless of course, you would be willing to offer your bezel for the 67-68 trucks with wipers and headlights on the left side and the choke on the right?

I own a 69,so I designed this dash for my application.If I should re-design it for 67-68,let me know.I'm on your side.

I don't understand why 67-68's need that choke knob.

If you go with my bezel, you would have to eliminate stock wiring circuit and re-wire your own.

Thanks,
Javy

I ACCIDENTLY CAME ACROSS THIS TOPIC TO ANSWER.
Please advise how I can answer questions members ask me in any thead.
Thanks,
Javy

Javy,
If you go into your usercp (button at top of page), it will keep up with the threads you have posted in when they have recieved new posts. Or just sit and read them all, constantly, like alot of us do.

Does this help or make since?

Pont,
I agree, you got a nice ride!

67/68's used a manual choke on all engines except the 327 (67/68) and 396 (68), therefore the reason for the different dash design (and choke knob). It was not until 69 that GM produced trucks all used auto (divorced) chokes regardless of engine.

GM used the same bezel in 67/68 with the 3 holes, even in auto choke equipped trucks. They used a neat choke delete "plug" of which there are 2 designs. One is simply a plastic plug, the other is a nice badge with "GM" on it. My 67 will have an Edelbrock Performer carb on it with an auto choke, but I'm retaining the stock 67 bezel and have obtained one of the elusive GM choke delete badges.

Make it Painless

If you make the move to a billet dash insert with custom gauges, do yourself a favor and buy the Painless universal gauge harness (available from Summit Racing). You can wire the gauges on your bench and just plug it in to your modified harness.

I wish I had seen Javy's insert before I bought mine, I felt bad cutting the raised ears, but I enjoy the new gauges.

CPNE: The 68 camper special I bought in Enfield, NH has a 327 with manual choke. The carb is 2 barrel and listed in NAPA parts as a marine engine carb. Most parts stores claim aaaaauto choke and qjet on 68 327s. Thought you might like to know.

Don't want my 68 in the white background anymore!

gr8scott51, thanks for the advice on the Painless universal kit. I wouldn't have thought to look to see if they make one. I would have done it the hard way. Thanks, if I do the dash mod (and I'm sure I will) that's the way I will go for wiring.

Huh, I never noticed that the switches were in different positions, shoudlnt be too hard, to just solder and heat shrink some extra wire, lets see pics of when your new bezel is in!

painless also has a kit specific for the 67-72. from what i understand, they include extra 'slack' to make sure you don't run into any of those type issues.

s95930, thx for posting the link. i did actually see that bezel just the other day. looks good! doesn't match well when you already have chrome pieces on the interior though

wouldn't you know I can't find it in my Summit catalog at work. It is in my No Limit catalog. There are two styles - cable speedo and electronic speedo. about $60.
