67-72 Dash Pad Identification Repo Or Original

Been around these old trucks for a while but could use a little help. I pulled this dash pad from a very clean 67 Chevy C50 . How can you tell a repo from an original? Thanks

That's original. The repros are a solid material that is not wrapped.

That is what I thought but while trying to research I ran across this photo which was a NOS pad. Were there more than one style made?

It appears to be more of a foam backed.

Re: 67-72 Dash Pad Identification Repo Or Original

Hi Paul,

My 72 Cheyenne has the original black dash pad in it and there is a absolute difference in the vinyl grain and sheen from that of an aftermarket.

Since you stated this was pulled from a C-50, my guess is that it would be original, especially if it is the same truck the gauge cluster came from.

Take care,
Tom

Both of mine had date stickers on the backside.

Hi Tom

Thanks. I just have not taken enough of them off over the years . Usually when I find them they are in poor condition. This truck never should have hit the salvage yard. It was that clean. Wish it would have been a pickup. But being a C 50 there just is not that much demand. Thanks

There were no stickers on this pad. That would have made it too easy. I have another 67 (which is what this came out of) . I think I will take it out to see if the back is the same.

That is a very nice article you posted on Davidson Rubber. It is nice to know the history of our trucks even from a vendors side.

I would love to know the vendors and suppliers it took to put a gauge cluster together. Where the parts were made, how they were made and where they were assembled is all very interesting to me.

Thank you for sharing this.

Take care,
Tom
