running issues
Good day fellow members of this great site. I have a issue with my 71 chevy C10 . I just replaced carb (Elderbrock 1406) and intake 2101 also Elderbrock. Ran very well for a week. Went to drive truck the other day started well and after about 30-45 second would just run really rough and stall unless I worked the gas. It does this now everytime. Not sure why? It has a 350 engine. Also blue smoke with I think mean gas. Any thoughts?

Re: running issues
Blue smoke usually means oil burning. Black or dark grey is carbon build up from running too rich of a fuel mixture.
Pull your spark plugs and take a look at them. Look up "how to read spark plugs" and try to determine what's happening. I bet your plugs are fouled.

Re: running issues
Thanks for the fast reply. I've just changed plugs not long ago. Could it be possible bad plug(s)?

Re: running issues
Probably not bad, but maybe. I'd pull a few and see if then look fouled. If not, then it's probably not your plugs. How old are your plug wires? Cap and rotor on your distributor? Is it HEI or points? When was the last time you have the dizzy a tune up? Sounds like ignition may be a problem, but it could also be fuel or vacuum.
Since you replaced the intake, I'd start with ignition, then look for vacuum. Fuel would be my last item I'd look at.

Re: running issues
Sounds like a vacuum leak.

Re: running issues
Did you go from the 1406 or to the 1406?
I learned the Carter AFB (what I have) does NOT have its own filter. I had to install an external one. I found out by seriously flooding the engine. Fortunately, no damage.
