fabricated crossmember
How would be the best way to build a fabricated crossmember for my 85 with a 700r4? I need to clear exhaust on one side and of course the driveshaft on the other side. Anyone got any ideas the best way to do this? I have seen tube type crossmembers for 2wd trucks from bowtie overdrive and they only had one tube which had a platform welded on one side for the tranny mount, also need a spot to bolt my skidplate for the 208 case.

if you can weld, make one out of 2" square tube. Have your tranny sitting in the frame where it needs to be with blocks or whatever and Make a template with some 2" cardboard strips and staple them together in the shape that it would need to be. Transfer your angles to the tubing and cut and weld

Yes, I can weld, thats the only way I was planning on build one. I am actually thinking about getting a MIG welder also because my friend wants to split the difference on one so he can use it also.
