brake light 66 gmc

I have a 66 GMC stepside and when we are hooking up the back lights can only get brake light on left and not on right. The blinkers and lights seem to be working fine just unable to get the brake light to come on for right rear. The lights are new and I have tested both lights for the back so must be some wire. Thanks.

There is usually a wire from the left light over to the right. Check at the left and see if you can follow it to the right. Check at the right to see where it comes from and follow back to source of power. Probably a wire amuck if everything on the left works.

Re: brake light 66 gmc

I did try a wire connecting the left and right with a wire for the brake. I then ended up having the right blinker flash both with the left and right blinker.

Re: brake light 66 gmc

Sorry for the prior post, I don't think it was explained very well. I had connected a wire from the connection on the left rear light that is the brake/blinker wire to the right side. I guess it makes sense that you would then also get the right rear light to act as a blinker for both the right and left turn signal. Hope this is a better explanation or my problem.

My answer wasn't much better. I'll see if I have a schematic that I can post. I have the '66 gmc manual and it is in there.
