Heartthrob Exhaust
I was going to just take my truck and have a custom exhaust, but thought I'd check here first to see if anyone has any opinion on the Heartthrob kit (like this one at LMC Of course LMC is way more expensive than everyone else, so I won't be buying from them. From the Heartthrob page it lists 3 different setup for my 72 4x4. The 8141490 (no mufflers), the 4149SK (stock muffler) and the 4149GP (glass pak mufflers)
The problem is, every time I enter that item at any of the authorized dealers, they all say they don't fit the 72 K10. I did email Heartthrob, to ask why that was happening and got this reply: "you should be good to go, these kits are for the 4wd up through 72 (73 was a model change) and with center dump manifolds. The only “no fit” footnote I would have against yours is if yours has a Rockwell transfer case. Otherwise it should be the correct kit for your vehicle" So does anyone have any experience with these on their 67-72 K10's?

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust
I have a Heartthrob kit on my '71 K20, side exit behind the wheels, and I couldn't be happier with it. It even fits around the PTO hanging off the SM465. If I remember right, the website is a little tough to decipher with it's footnotes, so good that you got in touch with them direct (I did too) to confirm the application. I seem to remember that I got the 'turbo' muffler, but it looks like the only options now are no muffler, stock muffler and glasspack. Anyway, mine fits great and sounds great, and the kit comes with every piece of mounting hardware you might need.
Get the right part number straight from Heartthrob and then go shopping online to see who's offering free shipping or whatnot, and go with them. I think I ended up buying my kit from JC Whitney.

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust
Good to know. Thanks. I ordered the kit with glass packs from autoanything.com. For $188 shipped was the best price I could find. I plan on changing the mufflers down the roard, but it wasn't much cheaper getting the no muffler kit, so I went this route

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust
I put the same kit on my 71 K20 with the glasspacks, fit perfect, no clearance issues. Going to put the same on my 86 K5 when i swap in the center dumps shortly.

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust
Thinking about buying this system for my K10 project. What is it about the mufflers that you don't like? Are they really loud? If you had to do it again, would you buy the 'no muffler' system? Thanks, Larry

I'll get some pictures after I install it. My cab and bed are both off, so it will be good reference for others with smiler trucks, hopefully

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust
I have this kit on my 70. I ran into a bit of a clearance issue on the passenger side, the exhaust is touching the transfer case. I have a NP205. Are you guys still using your heat riser? Thats the only thing i can think of that might make the exhaust hang down a bit low and rest on the transfer case. That or maybe the section of pipe coming off the manifold was not bent enough? Other than that it seems pretty decent and the glass packs have a nice mello tone to them.

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust
Here are some pics, sorry they are not that good. The first is the bottom of the ram horn with the heat riser under it. The second is the clearnce over the transfer case. Its hard to seem from the pic but, the pipe is resting on the front part of the tcase, and i cant push it up any higher. Im not completey sure the heat riser is the problem, but its the first thing that pops up in my head. Hopefully some others will chime in, if they are still running the risers or not. I was also thinking the first section of pipe coming off the manifold might not have been bent enough. for what ever reason i can only post one pic so here is tcase.

Re: Heartthrob Exhaust
I'm still waiting on my exhaust. It was supposed to ship today, but I just got an email saying it will at least be another week!! WTF kind of company is Heartthrob? I'm guessing they have 1 employee that custom makes each exhaust a few weeks after they get the order. If I had to do it over again, I'd look elsewhere, but now that I waited this long, what's another week. I was really hoping I coukd finally start assembling my truck this weekend
