Ever seen a factory stripe like this?

I just got this awesome 1980 GMC shorty 4x4. I have heard that the stripe was believed to be on it when bought new. It is reminiscent of one i had on a 90s S15 at one time, but i cannot find any official GM listings anywhere & no option codes for a stripe.
I'm about to peel it off.... and would try to save it if i thought it was OEM.

Re: Ever seen a factory stripe like this?

It does look like factory striping from that time period.
Looks kinda like the striping they used on the 1977 GMC Sarge but not quite the same.

Is the SPID sticker still in the glovebox or on the inner fender?

Re: Ever seen a factory stripe like this?

It very possibly could have been on the truck when it was bought new. Does not mean it is factory though.

Just like you can drive by the dealerships today and they'll have a lifted and decked out crew cab sitting out front... Sure it was bought new that way, still is not factory though.

Not sure on the stripes, but that is a sweet truck! It looks to be in really good shape. Nice score, congrats!

Re: Ever seen a factory stripe like this?

Great feedback, thx.
The RPO codes are in the glovebox, & i have rec'd same from GM. No mention of a stripe in the factory options.
Clean up has started, it is coming off...

Re: Ever seen a factory stripe like this?

Those look like Trim Brite (?) stripes to me. I put some on my Camaro in the early 80's

Re: Ever seen a factory stripe like this?

Take lots of pictures, and pictures if you measuring it. In case you ever wanted to reproduce the stripe...

Re: Ever seen a factory stripe like this?

I can see why they did it. Looks kinda close to the Sport stripes. If they turned down in the front with the trim it'd be hard to say whether it was original or not.
Was still hard without the SPID sheet.
